Brenden's thoughts!

Hi my name is Brenden and I am 9 years old. I have type 1 diabetes. I have an older brother that has it too. It is not fun having diabetes but it is not horrible. My life hasn't changed a bit since I got diabetes. It is like I never got it. But unfortunately I did. I would love it if you have diabetes to send a comment of how you feel about having it. If you don't have diabetes can you comment what you think it would feel like to have it? Thank you for reading this.

Goodbye,

Brenden

  1. Hi Brenden!

I think it would be difficult to have diabetes. I'm sure it gets old always having to check what you eat, test your blood, etc. I'm proud of Christopher and you for being such troopers!

What has been the hardest part for you adjusting to your new life with diabetes?

    Love you!

I am sorry you have to have diabetes. I am so proud of you for handeling it so well. I know it is so important to take care of yourself. Thank you for being so responsible. I admire you for still living your life to the fullest. What a great example you are to your siblings and others. Stay strong and know you are loved and prayed for. I love you!!!

  3. I was diagnosed with diabetes about 10 years ago when I was in college. I think it was a harder adjustment being older and set in my ways. But even though it was a hard adjustment, it has helped me live a healthier life. My brother-in-law was diagnosed about five months before me. Knowing someone else who is going through the same thing helps, so I'm glad you and your brother have each other for support. Us diabetics have to stick together. :)

  4. Hi Brenden,

I don't have diabetes so I don't know how it feels. I did have to be in the hospital ALOT and was constantly very sick up to age 7 because I was born with part of my body not working. The tests were very painful (I remember those!) and I had to have surgery to build me a part so my kidneys and bladder would work right. No-one in my family (including Aunts, Uncles, and Grandparents) thought I would ever live to grow up. They were not members of our church. I know many adults with type 2 diabetes...not nearly as difficult as having type 1 like you do. I think you and Christopher are awesome! I know that there are reasons for things happening and that Heavenly Father makes it all ok. He has a wonderful plan for you. It doesn't stop us from getting scared, mad, sad, and just feeling icky sometimes. You are very blessed to be in your family and also our church family. We love you!

  5. My 11 year old daughter was 9 when she was diagnosed. It has been an adjustment but she has handled it great. We have found a great camp here in TX for children and their siblings to go to every summer. Do you go to any camps for children with diabetes? My daughter is my hero. Here's to hoping for a cure soon!

  6. I am not diabetic. I have several friends who are diabetic. They can do everything I can go and much, much more. You might have to watch your diet closely, but we all do if we want to be healthy. My friends tell me that after a while testing your sugars becomes second nature and they don't even think about it. They just do it as part of their routine, kind of like brushing your teeth.

I am so thankful that one day we will all be resurrected and have perfect bodies. Have faith little men!!! You have a great family to lean on too when you feel lonely or scared.
